Samish Affordable Housing Design

Red Plains Design and Planning teamed with the Tribe and Travois, the architect on this project, to design and construct a very complex low-income housing project on fee land that required navigating a rigorous review process through the City of Anacortes. The City was evolving their building development codes and specifications during the active design project and wanted to ensure that the new construction would meet the new standard. We worked with the Tribe and City to design and redesign as needed evolving the project into a new community that the Tribe is proud of. Funded by tax low-income tax housing credits, we maximized the number of units on a challenging development lot that required significant consideration of permitting and responsible environmental design. Tim Scott PE, the lead Engineering of Record, was honored to be invited to attend the multi-agency ribbon cutting ceremony receiving acknowledgement from the project team for sticking in and helping get the project to completion.
