Zuni Pueblo Transportation Safety Plan and NM53 Roadway Safety Audit, NM

Red Plains collaborated with the Zuni Tribal Roads Department to secure funding for transportation and safety improvement projects. We developed their Long-Range Transportation Plan, NTTFI Inventory Update, Transportation Safety Plan, and completed a critical Roadway Safety Audit on NM 53. The original Safety Plan identified a 4.3-mile stretch of NM 53 where the rural highway meets the expanding community. A multi-disciplinary team conducted crash analysis and field inspections to propose realistic safety enhancements. The RSA offered options such as speed reduction, pedestrian improvements, and intersection reconfigurations to enhance safety for public travelers, freight, and local multimodal users. The various plans will serve as informative documents for seeking federal and state funding by the Tribe to implement conceptually programmed improvements on the NMDOT-owned facility.
